Campaign 2005:
Phu An Vietnam
Project summary
Phu An, on the Mekong River, is a poverty stricken village in Vietnam. It is one of the poorest villages in the country, and it has a population of 13,000 people. Most families are agriculturally based, and they do not have enough money to support themselves, let alone their own children. Evil people take advantage of this situation by telling their parents they are going to bring their daughters to work in factories in Vietnam or Cambodia. Actually, the young girls are sold as prostitutes and subjected to the worst form of rape imaginable, as sex slaves. These young girls are not only being raped and sexually abused, they are beaten if they try to escape. They are in constant danger of catching fatal diseases such as HIV and AIDS. These girls do not receive pay for this horrible and demoralizing occupation, and are not allowed to leave.

History of Vietnam
Vietnam is a small country located in Southeast Asia. This small communist country has been damaged numerous times due to multiple wars. Vietnam has had conflicts with France, China, Cambodia, and the United States of America. In the mid to late 1950's, Vietnam was at war with France; it wasn't until the early 1960's that the U.S.A got involved. For 10 years or so, Vietnam was in rough shape. In June of 1976, the country was officially reunited. However, that didn't last for long. In the late 1970's and 1980's, Vietnam expanded its control of Southeast Asia by invading Cambodia. Vietnam has struggled through many wars in the past 40 years, but is currently not at war with anyone. However, problems are still evolving in the country and they are in need of help.
